Learn how to ride independently with control, maintaining a secure position at walk, trot, and canter in full and half seat positions, as well as...

  1. Circles at canter on both leads.
  2. Ride for a prolonged periods without stirrups at posting and sittings trots.
  3. Demonstrate emergency stop rein aids.
  4. Canter figure 8 with simple change of leads.
  5. Demonstrate full and forward seat at all three gaits.
  6. Emergency dismount at walk and trot.
  7. Execute canter/hand gallop/canter transitions.
  8. Mount and dismount from both sides of horse.
  9. Execute accurate transitions at all gaits.
  10. Demonstrate lengthening and shortening of trot to pass other riders and lead the group, as directed.
  11. Ride safely in a group at walk and trot over uneven ground.
  12. Discuss and demonstrate lateral and diagonal aids.
  13. Discuss and demonstrate basic bending, flexion, and rhythm.
  14. Demonstrate half seat at walk, trot and canter

Horsemanship Skills Include:

  1. Fully bathe, groom, and tack horse, including cleaning genitalia
  2. Clean and reassemble saddle and bridle; Correctly adjust tack on the horse
  3. Demonstrate mane pulling
  4. Describe footfall of the canter
  5. Free lead horse in enclosed area
  6. Understand all terminology used in the lessons

 

**All horsemanship and riding skills are progressive. To advance to Intermediate I, the student must be proficient in all lower level requirements, as well as their current level.
