Intermediate II Lessons

You will Learn how to...

Ride independently with control at walk, sitting and posting trots on correct diagonals with advancing positions, control at the canter and hand gallop as well as...

  1. Mount and dismount from both sides without assistance.
  2. Adjust stirrups while mounted at the walk.
  3. Adjust girth while mounted at the walk.
  4. Ride at canter in both directions on correct leads, and figure 8's with simple change.
  5. Canter independently while others walk or trot.
  6. Execute safe group riding procedures/arena etiquette.
  7. Ride with control at walk and trot up and down easy hills.
  8. Demonstrate and explain aids for trot/canter transitions
  9. Discuss basic principles of balance and motion, gaits and movement.
  10. Demonstrate advancing proficiency in all seats.
  11. Perform schooling figures at posting and sitting trots with and without cavalletti.
  12. Perform individual warm-up at walk and trot.

Horsemanship Skills Include:

  1. Name and locate ten parts of the horse.
  2. Tack and untack correctly and independently.
  3. Describe and execute process of cooling out.
  4. Discuss and execute suitable warm-up for horse and rider before flat work.
  5. List 3 examples of unsafe tack.
  6. Proficiency at free lungeing.
  7. Understand all terminology used during the lessons.

**All horsemanship and riding skills are progressive. The student must be proficient in skills of the current and all lower levels before advancing to the next level, Intermediate III.
